EvjFelt pretty good about our two outdoor nestcams. Had them installed higher as we have two stories. Short-lived as recently i discovered people nearby have found a way to interfere with the cameras for short 20 minute periods in which they’ve vandalized our property just as they did before we had the cams. By the way i had the installed through the wall so the cords wouldn’t be accessible (as per nestcam instructions). This requires an excessively large hole through an exterior wall. I wish the cams could unplug & allow for a small more reasonable hole. Talked with our internet service & it’s quite possible to jam the signal, which can also be done with a simple laser tool Please develop something better.

I now can see everything except what’s needed to stop theft & vandalism, by people who can see our every move. Feeling very vulnerable.
Unfortunately there are many mean spirited people around in the guise of friendly Bernie Madoff types. Interesting to hear your experiences with Nest Cam Outdoor. It would certainly make more sense if Nest Cam Outdoor cables could be detached from the camera during installation because as you say, otherwise you need to drill a hole the size of the camera to squeeze it through. Regarding jamming, you highlight a good point about the pitfalls of wireless security camera. One of the problems is that all systems that use wireless technology such as Nest Cams have to state the wireless frequency they broadcast on – making it easy for thieves or intruders to use jam that frequency during break ins using some kind of radio transmitter. It’s also apparently possible to use magnets to fool a system and disable the cameras by pointing a simple laser device at them which I think is what your internet service provider means? No home made security system is ever going to be bulletproof but manufacturers should be making cameras that rely on either varying wireless frequencies or laser resistance in order to make them harder for thieves to crack.

Some manufacturers such as make cameras that can warn you if it thinks someone is trying to Jam it although it’s still not “jam proof”. Unfortunately as yet Simplisafe’s software and cameras don’t work very well with Macs though. Max LucasI am using Amcrest WiFi 3mp. I connected to a Synology NAS, the drive had it’s own software to view and record. I just set it to record 24/7. Very “basic”, but works.
Automatic backup on FTP, powerful web server for viewing all cameras with sound (flash video streaming), cyclic archive with export feature. Free mode - 1 camera and a few other restrictions. Trial mode - full functionality and settings kept for 4 hours. Commercial mode unlocks limitations.

As for viewing. Amcrest males an App for iPhone/iPad that works ok.
And on iMac they have Amcrest Web View app. It works fine, but you have to enter the IP every time you launch it, very dumb design. You can also use safari or chrome web browser to view.
I’m on this page looking for something a little better than what I currently have. But I just wanted to add I’ve had same camera for 3 years without a problem. Recording to NAS also not a problem. Viewing to my iMac. But could be improved.
